Africanized bees in North Las Vegas: what every homeowner needs to know.

Africanized honey bees — a hybrid of East African and European subspecies — have been established in Clark County for over two decades. North Las Vegas, bordered on the north and east by open Mojave Desert terrain, receives ongoing swarms from wild Africanized colonies throughout the desert. The Sheep Mountains to the north and undeveloped land around Nellis Air Force Base provide permanent wild habitat adjacent to residential NLV neighborhoods.

The critical fact about Africanized bees is that they cannot be identified by appearance. They are the same size, same color, and same general shape as European honey bees. Only laboratory morphometric analysis can confirm Africanization.
